Using a captioning service, Discovery Commons can facilitate adding text captions (closed or open) to video. The captions are white letters on a darkened background at the bottom of the screen; medical terms and names that may be unfamiliar to the captioner can be called out in advance so spellings are correct. Open captions are automatically visible when the video plays (but can be turned off); closed captions need to be turned on by the user to be visible.
